Paul Colbert’s cause of death: What happened to Stephen Colbert’s brother?

The ‘Late Show’ host was only ten years old when his father and two brothers were killed in a car accident. Colbert’s father and two younger brothers, Paul and Peter, were passengers on a plane flying from Charleston to Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 11, 1974.

Flight 212, an 82-passenger DC-9 plane operated by Eastern Air Lines, appeared to be making a routine approach to Douglas Municipal Airport. The plane never made it to Douglas, crashing three miles short of the runway on a cornfield-covered hillside.

He grew up on James Island, a Charleston, South Carolina, suburb.
