Artis Leon Ivey Jr., often known as Coolio, was born on August 1st, 1963 in Compton, California. When Coolio was eleven years old, his carpenter father Artis Sr., and his factory worker mother Jackie got a divorce.
Coolio, a rapper, actor, and music producer were American. The singles “Fantastic Voyage” (1994), “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New)” (1996), and “C U When U Get There” (1997) are what made him most well-known. “Gangsta’s Paradise,” his most well-known song, earned a Grammy Award in 1995.
He was also well-known for penning the 1996 Nickelodeon television series Kenan & Kel’s opening theme song, “Aw, Here It Goes!” Coolio has been independently releasing CDs since 1996. He had culinary training as well, and a cookbook and the internet series Cookin’ with Coolio were both written about him. Ivey first rose to fame when he joined WC and Crazy Toones to form the Gangsta rap group WC and the Maad Circle.
The 2019 single “Escape Wagon” by the Irish rap group Versatile featured Coolio. Later, on their 2021 album Fuck Versatile, he made an appearance on the song “Coolio Interlude.”
Coolio was selected as Cherie DeVille’s running mate in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.
