Joe-Nathan, a young, neurodivergent man who lives with his mother, is good at his grocery-store job and is nice to everyone, even Mean Charlie, who calls him “Joe Nuthin’.” He keeps track of his daily schedule in a notebook, loves watching “Friends” and reading the encyclopedia. His encouraging mother keeps more notebooks filled with rules and advice for her beloved son, which he must rely on for guidance when he’s faced with the challenge of leaving his comfort zone. Fisher portrays Joe-Nathan with dignity and intelligence, and conveys the importance of committing to a life filled with kindness. (Gallery)
