Gillie Da Kid opened up about the deeply emotional and transformative experience of washing his late son’s body in accordance with Islamic tradition.

He shared his feelings during an appearance on The Pivot podcast. His son, 25-year-old rapper YNG Cheese, tragically lost his life to gun violence in Philadelphia in July.

Gillie explained that he believed he understood the responsibilities of being a man before this tragedy, including providing for his family and supporting others.

However, it was the act of washing his son’s body that profoundly changed his perspective, and he expressed that it marked the day he truly became a man.

Despite the immense pain of the situation, Gillie tearfully thanked fellow Philly rapper Freeway for being there for him and helping him through what he described as the most challenging experience of his life.

He believes that he provided his son with a proper farewell. Gillie took a leading role in organizing Cheese’s funeral procession, held at the renowned venue The Met Philadelphia. The investigation into his son’s murder is ongoing, with authorities still searching for suspects.
